Year 2 2025 - 2026
Mrs Waters
Welcome to Year 2.
Hello everyone!
My name is Mrs Waters and I am so delighted to be teaching at the lovely Weaver Primary School. We have had a wonderful start to the year - the children have setlled brilliantly into routines and are a credit to you all :)
If you want to know more about what we will get up to in Year 2, or how to best support your child at home, I have attached a copy of the powerpoint from the 'Help Your Child at Home' evening.
Also, to help and support you, here is a copy of the letter I sent home at the start of the year that outlines some of the routines in Year 2. These might change but I will keep you updated.
Reading - Your child has received their new reading diary and took a reading for pleasure book on Tuesday. Today (Friday) all children will come home with either a Read Write Inc (RWI) phonics book or, if they have completed phonics, a banded book. This book is for them to read to you to practise their reading skills. The reading for pleasure book is for you to enjoy with them, perhaps reading to them at bed time. If they are able, the children are more than welcome to read this book to you, but please be mindful that it will not have been chosen with their current reading level in mind.
Spellings - During Read, Write Inc sessions, the children will have spellings linked to their books. These spellings can be found on the corresponding coloured spellings in your child’s reading diary. For example if your child brings home a red RWI book, they should practice the spellings from the red words in the reading diary. Your child’s phonics group leader will monitor how they are getting on with this.
Those children who have completed RWI will be sent home an alternative set of spellings on a Friday, based on the spelling rule they have learnt that week. They will then be tested in our spelling and reading session the following Friday. Please note, this only applies to children who have completed the RWI phonics programme.
Communication - My door is always open and I am always happy to talk. If you have a quick message, you can always pass these on to me by writing them in your child’s reading diary, but please remind your child to pass the diaries to an adult so that we can see this. You can also email me on mwaters@weaver.cheshire.sch.uk or the school office on admin@weaver.cheshire.sch.uk.
Snacks and Water Bottles - If your child has a snack for morning playtime please ensure it does not contain nuts. The snacks will be placed in their school trays. Please send your child with a full, named water bottle.
Lunch boxes - Most children in Year 2 have school lunches, however if your child would like to bring their own lunch, don't forget to name their lunch bag/box.
PE - PE will be on a Tuesday and a Thursday this half term. Children will come to school wearing their PE kits. Please make sure your child is wearing black jogging bottoms or black leggings on days that are cold. Please make sure your child’s kit is named.
Cloakroom - Our cloakroom is along the main corridor, therefore, as with in Year 1, we are unable to have rucksacks/backpacks. Our Weaver book bags fit into the children’s trays perfectly.
Home learning – Every Friday, your child will come home with a piece of home learning. They will be given both a maths and topic book to complete these in. You do not need to return these books to school. Instead, please upload a photo of your child’s completed work to Seesaw for it to be assessed. This way, your child has one less book to remember/carry in to school each week! The due date for home learning will usually be the following Wednesday but, for this first week, I have specified on the worksheet that it is not due until next Friday (12th)/.
Home time - I am doing my best to learn all of your faces to make collecting your child as quick as possible for you. Whilst I do this, please feel free to call out who you are waiting to collect as this will really help. Thank you so much for your patience as I get to know you all :)
Staff in Year 2
Mrs Waters – Class teacher
Mr Gibbons – PPA cover teacher – Thursday (am or pm)
Mrs Ackerley – Teaching Assistant (am)
Thank you so much for all of your help and support. If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to ask - my door is always open and I am always happy to help :)
Many thanks,
Mrs Waters
