Year 2 2024 - 2025
Mrs Johnson
Welcome to Year 2.
My name is Mrs Johnson, I'm the Year 2 class teacher and Deputy Head teacher. On a Thursday afternoon Mr Gibbons will teach PE and IT. Miss Street will teach on a Friday. We also have Mrs Cope, Mr Dean and Miss Warhurst supporting the children at different times throughtout the week.
In the Autumn term we will focus on significant people and why they are famous. In Spring we learn about the continents and focus on Australia. In the Summer term we look at Seasides and the history of holidays. In the Summer term the Year 2 children also visit Llandudno for a two night residential.
To help and support you, here are some of the routines in Year 2. These might change but I will keep you updated on the weekly class letters.
Reading
In Year 2 we bring reading books and diaries into school everyday. An adult at some point during the day will check diaries and change books where necessary. Please can you comment when you read with your child at home.
RWI Phonics and Spellings
Children following the RWI scheme will have key words sent home on a bookmark. There will be no spelling tests as these words are ongoing. Children in my spelling group will have spellings sent home each week on a Friday and tested the following Friday. All spellings link to the phonic and spelling patterns being taught in the phonic lessons. The children will get a spelling folder and red spelling book, these need to be in school on a Friday.
Communication
Messages can be passed via the school reading diaries. If you have an important message in the diary please encourage your child to pass the diaries to an adult as we don’t always look at them until the afternoon. You can also email me on cjohnson@weaver.cheshire.sch.uk or admin@weaver.cheshire.sch.uk
Please send attendance messages to the school office.
Snacks and Water Bottles
If your child has a snack for morning playtime please ensure it has no nuts in them. Please send your child with a named water bottle. These must be cleaned every night. All childen have fruit provided by school during the afternoon play time.
Lunch boxes
Most children in Year 2 have school lunches. However if your child would like to bring their own they can bring their lunch in a lunch box. Don't forget to put your name on it!
PE
PE will be on a Tuesday and Thursday. Children will come to school wearing their PE kits. Please make sure your child is wearing jogging bottoms or leggings during the colder months as they can get cold wearing shorts.
Cloakroom
Our cloakroom is along the main corridor, therefore we are unable to have large rucksacks. The book bags fit into the drawers perfectly!
Homework
Homework is set out on a Friday and expected to be completed by the following Wednesday. All homework is now on Seesaw. but paper copies will be sent home. Please upload a photo of your homework on to Seesaw. Homework books stay at home.
Login and passwords
All login and passwords will be on the inside of your child's Reading Diary. Weaver School pay for these apps and platforms to support your child's learning. If you are having any difficulties logging into any of these accounts please let me know and i will ask the IT team to investigate.
Please remember to label all belongings, especially jumpers and cardigans.
