Year 2 2022 - 2023

Mrs Johnson

Mrs Johnson

Welcome to Year 2.

My name is Mrs Johnson, I'm the Year 2 class teacher and Deputy Head teacher.  In class 2 we also have Mrs Cope in the morning and Mr Dean in the afternoon. On Tuesday afternoon Mrs Sykes will teach PSHE and RE.  On a Friday morning Mr Gibbons will teach PE and IT.

To help and support you here are some of the routines in Year 2.  These might change but I will keep you updated.

In Year 2 we bring reading books and diaries into school everyday.  An adult at some point during the day will check diaries and change books where necessary.  Please can you comment when you read with your child and clearly state when the book has been finished so we know when to change the books.

Spellings are sent home each week on a Friday and tested the following Friday.  All spellings link to the phonic and spelling patterns being taught in class.  The children will get a plastic spelling folder, these need to be in school just on a Friday.  Children following the RWI have bookmark spellings in their RWI folders.

Messages can be passed via the school reading diaries.  If you have an important message in the diary please encourage your child to pass the diaries to an adult as we don’t always look at them until the afternoon.  You can also email me on

Snacks and Water Bottles

If your child has a snack for morning playtime please ensure it has no nuts in them.   Please send your child with a named water bottle.  These must be cleaned every night.

Lunch boxes

Most children in Year 2 have school lunches.  However if your child would like to bring their own they can bring their lunch in a lunch box.  Don't forget to put your name on it!

PE will be on a Tuesday and a Friday during Summer Term 1.  Children will come to school wearing their PE kits.  Please make sure your child is wearing jogging bottoms or leggings during the colder months as they can get cold wearing shorts.

Our cloakroom is along the main corridor, therefore we are unable to have large rucksacks.  The book bags fit into the drawers perfectly!

Homework is set out on a Friday and expected to be completed by the following Wednesday.  All homework is now on Seesaw.
